Igor Orlovich and Ravi Mehta follow the news about Electric Vehicles and have curated items for fans and those thinking about going electric for their next car, SUV, or truck.
News from the Dealers:
"This year automakers will launch a staggering 32 new electric vehicle models in the US. And that’s not even including the dozen or so existing models that are getting big upgrades or price cuts." This article takes you through the ones the author is most excited about - and why you should be excited as well!
Charging News:
A Ford Lightning owner drove roughly 25,000 miles a year and used the vehicle the way pickups are meant to be used, as daily transportation. He charged to 100% every night for two years, sometimes letting it sit in that state for an extended period. If there were a scenario where battery wear should show itself, this was it. And yet, when he ran the test to see how much the battery had degraded: not a single percentage point.
Note: CPG isn't advocating for disregarding manufacturers' recommendations - just reporting when the reality is better than anticipated.
Last spring, China introduced a new "no fire, no explosion" standard for electric batteries from mid 2026. Vehicles manufactured after July 1, 2026 must meet these zero tolerance improved safety standards.
Incentives:
California is proposing new incentives for electric vehicle buyers in a move that could soften the blow from the loss of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, which Congress killed last September. According to the 2026-2027 budget summary released by Governor Gavin Newsom’s office on Friday, the state is proposing to set aside $200 million to establish a new light-duty zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) incentive program.Â
