EV Trends Report:

Carvana released their Q2 review of Electric Vehicle and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle trends. You can see their report on sales and top models here.

From the Automakers:

The Chevy Equinox was the best selling non-Tesla through Q1 & Q2, stealing the title from Ford's Mustang Mach-E. GM moved ~8,500 Equinox EVs in July, marking the model's best month ever, the best month for any non-Tesla EV ever, and at least 1,000 more than the Mach-E's best sales month.

There’s a new world record holder in EV range. Engineers at GM recently took a minimally modified version of the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck traveled a total distance of 1,059.2 miles from a single charge. This summer, Chevy introduced the 2026 version of the Silverado EV, featuring an EPA range of 493 miles.

The 2026 Uncharted is Subaru’s fashionable new EV with 300+ miles of range and a feature-packed cabin. They will offer both FWD and AWD options.

Faraday Future unveiled the FX Super One, an all-electric minivan. It has some interesting features - like a programmable LED front end and a back seat mini-fridge, but it comes at a cost: all but the base model runs $100K+.

ree

To see how well the new 2026 Kia EV4 would perform under the absolute worst conditions, Kia decided to subject the car to 68,000 miles of an unnecessarily aggressive 6,200-mile battery torture test with only fast charging on the mighty Nürburgring Nordschleife. It just wouldn't die.

Each month, the Electric Vehicle Intelligence Report surveys thousands of consumers to gauge attitudes on EV adoption, autonomous driving, and the automakers that are developing those technologies. Toyota currently has the highest net-positive score. Tesla isn't so popular: just 26% have a somewhat or very positive view of Tesla, 39% have a somewhat or very negative view of the company, 14% are unfamiliar or have no opinion.

Lamborghini managed to deliver 5,681 cars during the first half of 2025. That 2% year-over-year increase is record-breaking and works out to the brand earning just over $285,000 in revenue—per car sold. The brand has hybridized its entire lineup. That means no matter what you're buying, it's all electrified in some way.

Ford is investing $5 Billion in a new 'Model T Moment,' and kicking it off with a new midsize electric pickup truck. The 4-door pickup is expected to start around $30,000, and will be the first of a new family of affordable EVs. Affordability will be possible by reducing weight and creating a universal EV Platform for their entire lineup.

Volvo has begun cutting sedans and station wagons from its US lineup. The Swedish luxury brand confirmed plans with Reuters on Thursday, citing slowing demand amid the Trump administration’s new auto tariffs. Outside of the V60, Volvo will only offer SUVs in the US, or about half of the 13 vehicles in sells globally.

Charging News:

The Brighton QuickLees in the Twelve Corners just installed DC Fast Chargers. They are up and running now!

Researchers at George Washington University have unveiled a new tool to fix a growing problem in the electric vehicle (EV) world—charging inequality. As more drivers switch to EVs, public charging access hasn’t kept up. This issue is especially visible in rural and underserved urban areas. The new EV accessibility metric could help change that. Unlike traditional EV metrics that just count the number of chargers, this tool dives deeper. It measures access based on travel time, station demand, charger type, and even real-time availability. That gives local planners and state officials a much clearer idea of where EV infrastructure falls short—and where to focus investment.

IONNA, a joint venture of eight automakers, has partnered with convenience store chain Wawa to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, bringing its total to more than 3,000 contracted charging bays. IONNA aims to deploy 30,000 charging bays across the United States by 2030.

According to TechCrunch, Trump administration has been ordered to stop freezing $5B for EV charger funds after they lost in court. The money is on the table again, but with fewer requirements for proving out safety, environmental impacts, and inclusion of minority- and women-owned businesses.

EVgo has secured a massive, $225+ million loan with five commercial banks in a bid to accelerate its expansion plans and add more than 1,500 new DC fast chargers to America’s EV charging landscape.

Matson, Inc, a leading U.S. carrier in the Pacific, has announced it will no longer transport electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles aboard its vessels, citing growing safety concerns related to lithium-ion batteries. The decision follows several incidents involving lithium battery fires, including the recent sinking of a 600-foot vessel was carrying 3,159 vehicles, including 65 fully electric vehicles and 681 partial hybrid electric vehicles when smoke was detected from a deck carrying electric vehicles. All 22 crew members had to abandon ship. Maritime safety experts point to thermal runaway as the primary hazard with lithium-ion batteries. This phenomenon occurs when a battery enters an uncontrollable, self-heating state that can result in the ejection of gas, shrapnel, or particulates along with extremely high temperatures.

New Technology:

A little-known company from the United Kingdom just significantly moved the needle forward in the race to develop lighter and more powerful electric motors. Yasa, which specializes in developing high-performance axial flux electric motors, set a new unofficial record for the highest power density of any electric drive unit. During routine testing, Yasa’s latest prototype motor hit an astounding 550 kilowatts (737 horsepower) while tipping the scales at just 28.8 pounds (13.1 kilograms). By comparison, the ubiquitous Tesla Rear Drive Unit found on the Model 3 and Model Y can output up to 239 kW (320 hp) while tipping the scales at roughly 176 lbs (80 kg). In other words, it makes less than half the power of Yasa’s motor while weighing six times more.

In Other News:

Imagine everyone drives electric—and then someone pitches a car that needs liquid fuel to move, needs constant refueling at special stations, and pollutes the air. No one would go for it. Rory Sutherland-style thinking flips the script in this video: sometimes what we accept as “normal” only makes sense because it came first.

Chinese electric truck manufacturer Windrose says it plans to deliver several hundred R700 class 8 battery-electric long-haul semi tractors to California-based Nevoya. Initial units are expected to be delivered by the end of 2025, with full deployment targeted for 2026. This would be Windrose's largest single order in the US market.
